As the Flower Moon wanes we look around to see the inspired creatures it left in its wake. Crystal Floyd was caressed by the full moon of May. She mirrors its sweet pale light as an inescapable passion to create.

Now and again you meet someone. Someone special. From the first meeting you know that person so deeply you feel you’ve known them for millennia. I can’t remember when I first met Crystal. It might have been twenty years ago, or a lifetime ago, or in another place at another time. Forever? I’ve loved her since. She is a Goddess in our tribe. A creator beyond special.
Crystal makes art. “I always have.” She stated matter-of-factly. “My mother was an artist. We always did art things. I don’t know any different.”
And, Crystal Floyd does make art. And she shepherds plants native to the southeast in her garden.
. “I use the love of native plants as a filter.” Crystal Floyd sat in her studio at CoRK Arts District in Jacksonville, Florida. “If you love natives, you are OK in my book.” She grinned. “Unless, of course you kick dogs. Then you are just a son-of-a-bitch and I hate you.” You could tell she meant it.

Crystal recently was subject of a delightful exhibit at the Lightner Museum in St.Augustine, Florida. The installation illustrates the breadth and depth of her work.
